Melaque &  Barra de Navidad are twin towns at each end of the Bay of Navidad in Jalisco, each totally different to the other. These two towns, plus several other much smaller farming villages nearby, come within the municipal jurisdiction of Cihuatlan a much larger town a few kilometres away and the main trading centre of the area. Both are only forty-five minutes from Manzanillo and just twenty minutes from Manzanillo International Airport.

The major tourist destination of Puerto Vallarta, with its International Airport, is a three hour car drive north. In the summer months, when flights to Manzanillo lessen considerably, the airport at Vallarta is a good substitute. There are frequent buses that run between Vallarta, Barra de Navidad & Melaque and Manzanillo.
